The pay-off is definitely good, and the movies in general has some great moments, but it also benefitied from me going into it with 0 expectations, and thining it was going to just be another low-budget FF horror movie, if I went into it thinking it's the "best ever found footage movie", I think I would have been a bit disappointed, as it really didn't stand out too much above all the other greats in the genre. Like most found footage movies, it's incredibly slow, with the final act having almost all the pay off. Then with Hell House, another good movies, but I think it's biggest issues is it's pacing. Grave encounters works super well if you're already a pretty big fan of crappy, over the top, fake ghost shows it's trying to emulate (with ghost adventures being the most obvious), IMO another great movie, but it definitely loses some of it's appeal if you aren't already a big fan of the kinds of things it's trying to parody/poke fun at.

IMO REC is so well done, the pacing is phenomenal, and it's just genuinely scary, with it being the last hororr movie back in 2008 when I saw it, to actually REALLY scare me (remember literally being scared of the dark in my house the next few days, which I can't say has ever happened with any other horror movies sense.). Hell House and Grave Encounters are both fantastic movies of the genre, but IMO neither come close to REC.īoth of these movies too, also came out significantly after REC (with REC being pretty early on into the FF horror craze of the late 2000's/early 2010's, so it also didn't have the benefit of 100+ other FF horror movies to look at, and try improve on (unlike both Hellhouse and Grave Encounters.) Completely disagree as a huge fan of the FF genre, and huge fans of both Hell House and Grave Encounters.
